My name is Jarah Al-Hawamdeh, and I am a mountain climber with one leg, determined to turn challenges into triumphs.
My journey into the world of climbing began after I lost my leg to bone cancer. I didn’t see this as an end but as the beginning of a story filled with resilience and determination. My dream is to prove that disability is not a barrier to achieving greatness and that a strong will can overcome any obstacle.
Throughout my journey, I have reached significant milestones both locally and internationally. I started by climbing the highest peak in Jordan, followed by summits in Africa, Everest Base Camp, and Turkey’s highest peak. My journey didn’t stop at mountain summits—I then moved on to leading rock climbing, reaching levels of 6b and 6c. This opened doors to climbing in various locations worldwide, including Jordan, the Arab world, and the United States, with iconic spots like Mount Lemmon.
Beyond my personal achievements, I am passionate about sharing my experience and training the next generation. I coach school and university students in the basics of rock climbing, teaching them to face and overcome challenges. Climbing is more than just a sport; it’s a life lesson, showing us how to adapt and push through obstacles, just as we progress to each new level in climbing.
It would be an honor to share my story through your platform, highlighting the achievements of climbers who overcome challenges and spreading a message of hope and strength. My goal is to inspire others to overcome their difficulties and prove that a strong will can achieve the impossible.
So, let’s climb—and sip on some mate!
